The Farmers
The Kichwa are an indigenous Amazonian group that live in Eastern Ecuador with a population of approximately 80,000 people divided into hundreds of smaller villages and associations principally within the Napo, Pastaza, and Orellana Provinces. As the largest of the 8 indigenous groups in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Kichwa have persevered through a difficult history of colonization and have largely maintained their integrity as a people. Currently, several groups of indigenous hold large tracks of land, most notably Rukullakta in Napo (adjacent to the Napo-Galeras Biosphere Reserve) and the Comuna San Jacinto (adjacent to Sangay National Park).
